Our Parents

Gloria & Dennis Ong

Dear Mom and Dad,

Apart from our Sovereign God who you raised me to love, worship, and serve, there is no one else that I owe all that I have become to than the both of you. As much as you lie through your teeth that you are proud of me, I am even more proud to be your son and have never known a day where I could not depend on your loving care for me, a loving care which stemmed from and reflected both your love for the LORD as well as your understanding of His great love for you. Mom, I'm so thankful to have inherited your warm smile, and flexible disposition. Dad, I'm thankful to have half of the analytical mind that you've been blessed with, and am still working on replicating your unselfish heart of steadfast service. Thank you, both, for teaching me that God's Word must rule my life. Thank you for teaching me that both you and He will always love me when I fail to submit to His rule. Thank you for teaching me to love the gospel and to glory in the cross, and for modeling such sacrificial love in your own lives. Thank you for always being together and present in my life, whether it be at my basketball games, when I've preached, or even in your prayers. No words could express the thankfulness in my heart for everything you've done for me, but know that I love you both and always thank God for graciously allowing me to be born into your Christ-honoring family. Even more so, I praise God that the family I get to bring Chelsea into is one that loves the LORD, and will love her as they have loved me.

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

Thank you for loving me and for always being present in my life. You taught me how to persevere through hard times, how to be responsible, and to live life with the bigger picture in mind. You are the type of parents that didn't just encourage me with words from afar, but really struggled, learned, and enjoyed everything alongside me. Not many people can say that their parents went to Mommy-And-Me classes, re-learned how to read music to help them learn to play violin, took ice-skating lessons with them, brought them to every audition and sat through hours of rehearsals (and experienced all the anxious nerves too!), cheered them on at every concert, show, game, and race, or made them go to 24 Hour Fitness at 6:30am to practice their shooting, all while working full time jobs.

You both have taught me so much about life and how to live responsibily, healthily, and sacrificially. You have been supportive of all my endeavors and gave me courage so that I could pursue and do well in anything if I worked hard at it. Andrew and I have a very long way to go as we learn to live the sacrificial life you both live. You have instilled in me the priority and value of family and an appreciation for other cultures. I am so grateful for all that you do and are to me because I wouldn't be the person I am today without you. And while I don't say it enough, I love you and feel so overwhelmed with gratefulness for the ways you have raised me.

Love,

your little girl
